There is no other word to describe my mood. I just don’t
want to do anything (for school... I did go on a 40 minute run tonight. I *heart* exercise). It doesn’t make
sense, but when it comes to school…. I don’t know. I love my kids, I love
teaching, but I just don’t want to. Like at all. Blahh.
So here’s the synopsis of my day… Monday’s are great. They
are (conveniently) especially great days to be unmotivated because 1. we have
early outs and 2. my class has art, which means that I get to pawn them off on
another teacher for an hour. It’s glorious. Today was very helpful in getting me
caught up on planning (I forgot my laptop last Friday). And let’s be honest, I do as little as
possible on the weekends. I’m too tired and attempting to have a social life.
C’mon people.
As a matter of fact, I think I would much rather talk about
the weekend than about school. This weekend (for most of my college friends)
started on Thursday night because classes were cancelled Friday for mid-term
break. Awesome for them, less awesome for those of us student teaching. Also,
remember that I had a bonus visitor on Thursday. :) After school on Friday, I
left school and trucked up to visit Thursday’s surprise visitor. (I’m sorry
this is all so vague, but I’ve done a pretty decent job of not name dropping
thus far in the blog. You can bet your little butt I’m not going to start now.)
Let’s just say that Thurday’s surprise visitor happens to be a boy. Who was a
friend. And is now (officially) Boyfriend. Big news! Surprise!
Well, now that I have dropped a very vague bomb (haha) let’s
move on to Saturday. I went home!! <3. I spent Saturday afternoon with my
fam bam watching some good old highschool volleyball games (OGAG). I really
miss playing. Saturday night I headed back to school. I spent the night bonding
with my roommate Monica (I guess I didn’t do a very good job with not name
dropping in her case…) and another friend over some silly movie with James
Franco and a questionable love story.
Still undecided on how I feel about it... probably because I talked through the whole movie and was super confused. Typical.
Sunday, I was up early to cantor at a local parish before
heading to the mall on a quest for new cute, winter, teachery shoes. I didn’t
find anything I liked, so naturally I spent a ton of money at Bath and Body
Works. Let’s just say I won’t need to buy lotion again for a while… Like
months. Anyway, Sunday night was pretty uneventful except for one event, an
education club meeting. I’m still talking up the new peer mentoring program so
we hosted a panel meeting for all ed majors to come and ask questions and
discuss educationy things. The most popular topics were observation hours, professionalism, and
Praxis II. It was a fun time to get everyone together and to hear their perspectives
on teaching, education, and all sorts of other things. I’m excited that things
seem to be working out and that people are legitimately showing interest!
That summary of the weekend leads us back to today, where I
am currently sitting in the campus atrium sipping hot chocolate with a hint of
caramel (because I will be up forever if I have caffeine) and typing the blog
out for all you lovely folks, random passer-byers, and loyal readers. Here’s a
funny couple of stories to wrap up Monday with giggles…
While on lunch duty today, one of the first graders (who has
a very traditional Mexican name) raised his hand and stuttered (he has a cute
little speech impediment), “Miss Specht. Guess what?” Me, “What?” Him, “I found
out this weekend that I’m Mexican! Know how I know….? Cause my brother is!”
I just about lost it laughing.
Later in the afternoon, the same student’s teacher was dying
laughing in the hall and preceeded to tell me this story... She had been quizzing
our little Mexican friend on his address, and he was holding his head in his hands saying, “Mrs.
F, my brain hurts. My head is on fire, do you know why?” To which another
little boy responded, “Is it because you’re Mexican?”
I love elementary school.
Goodnight readers!
Peace, love, and semi-racial jokes,
Jayna
